Thought that it was time to write another blog

I thought it was time to write another blog. I have been busy  with clients and family. Husband and I took a holiday for the first time. I caught up with my reading and sleep. Enjoyed lying on the beach and swimming in the ocean.

This is the view from our room.

Before I left for our holidays.  I mounted a quilt into my longarm machine  finished quilting it this week I used template ruler from top anchor to make the stars. Then I just doodled feathers pebble and swirls.

This is the quilt half finished in the machine

This is the quilt after it was finished

This is the finished quilt back.

This passed week my guild raffle quilt was brought back to me for washing and blocking
I am very proud of this quilt. Almost two years ago I was asked to design a quilt for the May 2014 show to be raffled off. This is the end result of our two years of work. I must thank all the ladies that helped me to complete it I would not have been able to get it finished with out your help. I would also like to thank the ladies that did a great job in hand quilting it.

This quilt is all hand pieced, hand appliqué, and hand quilted. We used 100% cotton fabric, and we used 100% wool batting.

A close up of the 2014 raffle quilt.
The quilt got picked up to be sent off to the photographer to be photographed.
I will be getting my raffle tickets to sale next week. I will definitely be buying tickets for myself and I hope to sell a lot too.

You can make a bed scarf out of the applique part of this quilt. You can find the pattern in my etsy shop

Polynesian Bouquet Quilt

Polynesian Bouquet

This is the quilt top before quilting.

I started designing this quilt over a year ago. I hand Appliqued the blocks using an over lay for placement of pieces. I also work with freezer paper shapes on the good side of fabric and needle turn so I do not have to cut away or pull out the paper after the shape has been appliqued down. This saves me a lot of time.

This is Block #3's over lay that I used.

This is a picture of how the over lay is used.
(new quilt in the making)

This quilt Pattern I have put it into pattern form and have been selling the patterns as individual block patterns. These patterns are Accuquilt friendly.

One of the blocks packaged up as a pattern.
You can find all the patterns on my Etsy Shop

I put the quilt blocks together on point so that I could have set in triangles so that I could do some feather quilting in them.

This is a picture of the corner traingle.

You can see what I did in the triangles, and also the borders, even though the border is not finished in this picture.

I also had fun in the borders even though I had a busy fabric and you will not see much of the quilting.

This is a small section of the border.

This is a Picture of the back of the quilt. Here you can see what I did in the traingles and the borders.

I did a fill design around all the applique and I also did some stitching around applique circles and flower petels too.

Background fill round the applique.

All that I have left to do is the binding.
I think I will put this quilt into the big quilt show here in Quebec.

Happy Quilting Everyone

A new tool that I tested

Well here I am again, I have been very busy and have not been  blogging much. Today I do have something that I would like to share with you.

I got some new tools last week and was able to test one of them. I liked the tool and will use it again It is made by Top Anchor and I bought mine on Amazon.

This one is called Baptist Fan. These Tools are for the longarm. They have a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwgNaIbJqm4

So I gave this tool a test  I must say that I enjoyed using it. It does take some getting use to and you really have to practice working with it. For my first attempt I was very happy with the end result.

See for yourself.

I think that if I continue working with this tool I will get much better. Go and have a look at there other tools and I will be testing the second one that I got in the near futur.

Happy quilting

Opening an Etsy store.

I must say that I am sorry that I have not made a post for some time. But I have been very busy with going to shows and buying fabrics.

Today I would like to talk about my on line store at Etsy.

I started this because I started to sell fabrics along with my quilting business, but it is a lot of work and I still do not have my fabrics put onto the Etsy store yet. The other day I have my son start to photograph the fabrics but he has not finished.

Let me tell you what I do have on the my online store. I have a lot of finished goods that I sell baby quilts and placemats I still have a few more of them to photograph and put on. The other day I put four items on and it took all day to get them writen up. You have to put a price for shipping so you have to take item and get it weighted and find a different price for more then one place so that you have an ideal of cost and you can do an average shipping price. ( the ladies are getting to know me at the post office).

You can find my Etsy store here

http://www.etsy.com/shop/Phyllishomedecor

go and have a look Will be starting soon to put my kits on and then my fabrics.

How I cut for my quilts.

My last post you saw that I have my own 2 1/2 inch strips and I talked about precut kits and I said that I had to get the 5 inch squares cut and packaged. So today I thought that I would show you all how I get my things cut.

Well I use the accuquilt studio die cutter. I have had this for some years now. I really have been making use of it for my own projects, but now I am putting it too good use with my fabrics that I am selling. Making my own precut kits, putting together 2 1/2 inch strip packages and cutting my own 5 inch squares packages.

See how fast you can cut your fabric with the accuquilt studio die cutter.

These are just a small sample of what I can cut with the studio die cutter.

All cut with the studio die cutter. I did this up as a precut kit.

This die I had made to my size that I would like. This is a Dresdon Plat die. It makes a 6 inch plate that will sit on an 8 inch block. On this die you have a choice of two different styles of Dresdon Plats.

These are the blocks made up.

This is another small die that I had made to the size that I wanted. These are small the smallest end is going to be finished at 3/4 of an inch the other end will be finished at 2 inchs and they are finished at 3 inch long.

This is the quilt top that was made using the die above.

They have applique dies too. I have many of there applique dies I have also had some applique shape made up into dies I do a lot of applique.

I did this with the die above. I like to do needle turn applique.

This was all cut using different dies for the back ground and for the applique I cut the pieces out of freezer paper and did needle turn applique.

close ups of the applique flowers.

I could go on and show more but I think that I will save some for another day.

Happy Quilting!
